Nurse Practitioner vs. Registered Nurse Whats the difference
Nurse Practitioner vs. Registered Nurse Whats the differenceYouve probably heard that nursing jobs are hot right now. And its true. But even within the general nursing world there are tons of specialties, so its important to know who does what before you commit to the career path. There are emergency nurses, pediatric nurses, travel nurses, nursing assistants, etc. You name the health care specialty, theres probably a specific type of nurse attached. googletag.cmd.push(function() googletag.display(div-gpt-ad-1472832388529-0) ) But what about nursing jobs that arent as clear? If youre not yet super-familiar with different kinds of nurses, you may hear registered nurse and nurse practitioner and think that the terms are interchangeable. After all, both types of nurses work with patients to monitor their health and provide direct medical care. Lets walk through how to tell the difference between ansicht two important nursing careers.Prescribing medicineNurse practitioners have greater flexibility when it comes to prescribing medicine and performing duties normally handled by physicians. Licensed nurse practitioners are legally able to prescribe medications and have greater flexibility in diagnosing and treating illnesses. Registered nurses cannot prescribe medications and often work under the direction of a physician when it comes to determining patient care and follow-up.Work environmentNurse practitioners often work in more private practice-style settings like community clinics, government agencies, nonprofits, or educational settings. A nurse practitioner may take on more of a physician-style in a clinical setting. Registered nurses typically work in hospitals or surgical clinics. Because of the nature of private clinics vs. the realities of working in a hospital, nurse practitioners often have more standard hours, while registered nurses work a greater variety of shifts.Level of educationRegistered nurses usually need a bachelors degree in nursing to get star ted in the field, but nurse practitioners typically hold a masters degree or higher. This makes nurse practitioner a logical next step for nurses whove been in the field for a while and want to take on more of an independent leadership role. But it can also mean additional investment of time and resources in an additional degree, so its important to consider whether becoming a nurse practitioner is truly what you want to do.SalaryBecause of the additional education and training for nurse practitioners, salaries tend to be higher for nurse practitioners than registered nurses on average. Per the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, registered nurses make a zentralwert annual salary of $68,450 per year, while nurse practitioners take home a median annual salary of $100,910.If youre thinking about a career in nursing, both nurse practitioner and registered nurse have the potential to be great, fulfilling career options. And if youre not sure yet which one would better suit your career goal s, we have a quiz for you to help figure out your next steps. Good luck

Keira Knightley Criticized Kate Middletons Postpartum Body But Maybe Shes Right
Keira Knightley Criticized Kate Middletons Postpartum Body But Maybe Shes Right Keira Knightley, the actress we all know for herbei obsession with corsets, can now add author to her LinkedIn profile. She recently penned an essay for Feminists Dont Wear Pink and Other Lies, an anthology edited by jurnalist Scarlett Curtis. But some people on Twitter wish the actress wouldve stuck to the screen. She is facing massive backlash for her essay a letter to her daughter titled The Weaker Sex in which she compares the gut-wrenching reality of childbirth to a fairytale version of motherhood she believes Kate Middleton embodies. You came out with your eyes open. Arms up in the air. Screaming, she tells her daughter. She describes the vomit, the blood, the stitches... the blood running down my thighs, cellulite of childbirth. Then, she juxtaposes this gritty, almost animal experience to Kate Middletons public appearance only a few hours after she gave birth to Princess Charlotte. She was out of hospital seven hours later with her face made up and high heels on, Knightley wrote of Middleton. The face the world wants to see. Hide. Hide our pain, our bodies splitting, our breasts leaking, our hormones raging. Look beautiful, look stylish, dont show your battleground, Kate.Twitter thought this attack on a personal experience was completely uncalled for...Source TwitterSource Twitter... and a textbook example of women tearing down other women in the name of feminism.Source TwitterSource TwitterBut one viral opinion argues everyone is missing the point.Writer Chitra Ramaswamy suggests that were hiding womens experiences by dictating that women must affirm others rather than spread their truth.Lets be clear. Knightley is not personally slamming the duchess for giving birth and then putting on some lipstick. Her attack is squarely aimed at a world that induces women to hide, she writes. The recounting of one experience doesnt automatically negate the worth of another, just as cri ticising another woman (which isnt what Knightley is doing anyway) doesnt automatically make you a double werber of the patriarchy. And yet, whenever a woman dares to open up about her labour she is castigated for mum-shaming and woman-hating.It is widely believed that feminism is rooted in critique and more specifically, the critique of the powerful structures and institutions that create society as we know it. And sometimes, critiquing those structures means critiquing those in power who tell our stories.Knightley wants to normalize the gritty truth of childbirth, and that means breaking up the false story that has been told for so long. Its nothing personal towards Kate. But it is personal towards the patriarchy. In her concluding lines, Knightley seems to mimic society telling Middleton how to perform.Seven hours after your fight with life and death, seven hours after your body breaks open, and bloody, screaming life comes out. Dont show. Dont tell, Knightley writes. Stand there with your girl and be shot by a pack of male photographers. This stuff is easy. It happens every day. Whats the big deal? And she has choice words for all of us.So does death, you s--t-heads, but you dont have to pretend thats easy.More on pop cultureCarrie Underwood is Being Bullied By Moms For The fruchtwein Ridiculous ReasonWorking Mom Natalie Portman Has the Perfect Clapback When a Man Describes a Woman as Crazy

How the right song can help you manage anxiety
How the right song can help you manage anxietyHow the right song can help you manage anxietyMaya Benattar is a licensed psychotherapist in New York City. Her office looks like the typical therapists office - calm and quiet, comfortable seating, soothing lighting. The perfect place to work through difficult feelings ofanxietyand depression. But a few items might catch your eye a piano, drums, a guitar, and various other music-making tools. Not things youd typically expect to see in a therapy setting.Thats becauseBenattar- in addition to her credentials as a psychotherapist - is also a board-certified music therapist. When it comes to coping tools, its hard to find something more universally loved and leaned on than music.Music therapytakes that to the next level, using music as an evidence-based tool for reaching clinical goals, with applications ranging from physical rehabilitation to mental health treatment. But just because music is the primary tool doesnt mean you need to be a ski lled musician to benefit. Though the people she sees often have an emotional connection to music, Benattar stresses that musical skill or experience is not required. Humans are naturally rhythmic. Our breath, our heartbeats, our schedules all have a rhythm, she explains. The beautiful thing about music therapy is that it incorposatzs the mind, body, and spirit into the therapy process, at a visceral, sensory level.Music has been used by humans throughout history for both mental and physical wellness, but music therapy as an organized therapeutic mediumcame around in the 1940s, when doctors and nurses in hospitals noticed the effects music had on soldiers coping with PTSD after the second World War. Today, there areover 5,000 board-certified music therapistsin the United States, each having completed an accredited degree program, clinical training, and board examination. The basis for using music as a therapeutic tool extends beyond anecdotal evidence - theres hard science behind the melodies. Music therapy interventions have beenshown in peer-reviewed studiesto reduce stress levels, facilitate emotional release, and decrease anxiety in a variety of mental health settings. But how does music therapy differ from simply throwing on some headphones and listening to your favorite album?Benattar says it all comes down to having a guide through the process. Often times, our instinct when feeling anxious or depressed is to try and shift our moods with music by only listening to happy music, which is only masking those issues, she says. Something I work on my clients with is using music to tolerate or understand these feelings instead of just shifting them.I want to help my clients use music listening in an intentional manner. To not just disconnect, but to understand and process their emotions.Jennifer Townsend - a board-certified music therapist based in Houston - takes a similar approach with her clients. Townsend works on an acute psychiatric facility, where patie nts are experiencing severe mental health crises. Yet the foundation is the same.Something I do with some of my clients is to help them with the process of really identifying anxiety and peace, says Townsend. Having them list out the words that describe both their anxiety and their ultimate goal, and using music as a vehicle to discuss those states of being.Townsend stresses that music is more than just lyrical content as well. The actual music - tempo, rhythm, melody, harmony, and timbre - can have a physiological effect on our bodies. Our heart rate and breathing can speed up or slow down to match the rhythm of a song, a phenomenon known asentrainment, and affect our physiological state as a result. We can use this to help move people into a more alert or calm state, depending on their need, says Townsend. We can match someones heart rate and emotion, and as the music changes, we can speed up or slow down that heart rate or mood. We entrain together, resulting in a physical chang e in the person.Besides addressing long-term therapeutic goals, Townsend also finds herself helping clients survive challenging in-the-moment mental health crises, using music to support things like progressive muscle relaxation to help manage an oncoming anxiety attack and teaching symptom management beyond the therapy room. The music therapists role is to build a relationship and observe while listening to or making music, she says. I want to see what nonverbal and verbal responses happen, and work through those responses to assist the healing process. While clinical music therapy requires the assistance of a trained and certified music therapist, both Townsend and Benattar stress the importance of empowering people to use music effectively on their own. I never want to discount how people use music for their own self care. Thats very important, says Benattar. But I encourage people to use music listening in an intentional manner. Can you create a playlist for when you feel anxious? Or that lets you feel sad? That intentionality is important, rather than just masking whats there.Curious where you can find a board-certified music therapist in your area? Asking the Right Questions to Make the Sale
Asking the Right Questions to Make the SaleAsking the Right Questions to Make the SaleIf you spend your sales appointments giving a lecture about your product and how great it is, you are using a presentation style that will cost you a lot of sales. A much more effective approach is to ask questions that draw your prospect out. When you ask the right questions in the right way, you can end up getting your prospects to do all the selling for you. At the very least, youll learn a lot about what the prospect wants from your product, which means you can laser-focus your presentation on just those points that will sell most effectively. Asking Open-Ended Questions Asking your prospect a series of open-ended questions during your presentation serves three important purposes. First, it helps you to confirm whether or not the prospect is a good fit for your product. Second, it helps you to identify their hot-button benefits, which allows you to fine-tune your pitch. Third, by getting pro spects to talk about various benefits and what they think about them, you sneak the information past the prospects salesperson filter. Not every question listed here is a perfect fit for every prospect, but these examples will give you a good distributionspolitik to start. Ideally, once you ask a few questions, the prospect will launch into an in-depthspeech and you wont need to do any more prompting at all. Buying History By learning more about the prospects previous buying experiences, youll get a glimpse of how that persons mind works and what their buying routines are. A prospects buying history has a major impact on their opinion of salespeople and what they value most in a product. What experiences, good or bad, have you had with this product type (e.g., What experiences, good or bad, have you had with buying cars?)?When did you last buy a product type? What process have you used in the past to buy a product type?Has that process worked well for you? Why or why not? What have you already tried doing to fix the problem with your current product type? What have you purchased from us before? How did that purchase go? Purchase-Specific Questions These questions relate to the specific transaction you are hoping to initiate. Purchase questions help you identify hot-button needs and to design your pitch around them. What prompted you to meet with me today? What qualities do you look for in a product type?Which quality is most important to you?Why would you like to have a product type? What is your timeline for buying a product type? What is your budget?Who else is involved in the purchasing decision? Rapport-Building Questions These questions get your prospects talking about themselves and help you develop a relationship of trust. They can also help you identify the prospects likes and dislikes, which is valuable information. How long have you been with the company? (for B2B sales)Where did you buy that beautiful sofa? (B2C)How old are your children? How ma ny do you have? (If you see a photo)What would you like this product type to do for you? Clarifying Questions If a prospect gives only a brief response to an important question, try drawing out more information. Tell me more about that. Can you give me an example? Can you be more specific? How did that affect you? Objection-Seeking Questions Until your prospect voices his objections, you cant do anything about them. If a prospect hasnt raised any objections then a little questioning can draw them out. What are your thoughts so far?Do you have any concerns? What are they? What other subjects should we discuss? Is there any reason we shouldnt move forward?

Training and Education Requirements for Lawyers
Training and Education Requirements for LawyersTraining and Education Requirements for LawyersLawyers must undergo extensive educational training and testing before theyre licensed to practice. The exact requirements can vary somewhat by state, but educational requirements for lawyers always include certain degrees and exams. Youll need a four-year undergraduate degree followed by three years of law school and a juris doctorate (J.D.) degree. A J.D. is awarded by law schools that are accredited by the American Bar Association. You must then pass the bar examination. Each state has its own bar association, so you must pass in the state in which you want to practice. You must then additionally pass an ethics examination in many states. Bachelors Degree A four-year degree from an accredited college or university is a prerequisite to acceptance at an ABA-accredited law school. The ABA doesnt recommend any one area of study, nor do law schools show any particular preference for one maj or over others. Students are elend required to major in pre-law. Law schools accept such a diverse pool of applicants with many different majors and backgrounds that you can fine-tune your major to your ultimate career goals. For example, you might want to major in geschftliches miteinander if you hope to eventually pursue business law, or in sociology, if you want to work in the public sector.A major in accounting might be practical and helpful if you want to work in tax law. The Law School Admissions Test Earning a bachelors degree doesnt ensure that youll be accepted to a law school. You must also take and pass the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) before you can apply to law schools. Admissions officers put a great deal of weight on LSAT scores ABA-accredited law schools wont accept applicants who havent taken the test. The LSAT isa half-day voreingestelltized examination that tests the analytical and reading comprehension skills considered necessary to succeed in law school. It includes five multiple-choice sections as well as an unscored writing test. Your LSAT score can also factor in determining financial aid. Its recommended that you take the test by October of the preceding year if youre hoping for fall semester admission. Law School Lawyers must graduate from a law school approved by the American Bar Association and have their J.D. to qualify for the bar examination in fruchtwein states. ABA accreditation signifies that the law school has satisfied and sustained certain standards established to ensure a quality legal education. Not all law schools are ABA-approved, and attending a non-ABA approved school can significantly hinder your employment prospects. Law school typically involves general courses as well as core subject coursework, including constitutional law, international law, business law, criminal law, courtroom procedures, and civil procedures.Theres no single standard curriculum they can vary somewhat from school to school. You can usually begin taking specialized courses midway through your second year, and you can also begin applying for externships at this time. Internships and Externships Working as an attorney requires more than just a solid educational background. A certain skill set can help immeasurably as well. Attorneys can hone these skills through opportunities such as internships. Many law students apply for these positions as undergraduates. They involve working for a law firm or organization for a prescribed period of time, often during the summer months. Its hands-on experience performing various jobs under the supervision of an attorney. Competition for these positions is typically fierce, so you might want to consider an externship as well. The process is similar, but externs typically work for nonprofits and government entities. In either case, its an opportunity to polish skills that arent typically taught in law school. For example, a successful lawyer will be keenly argumentative- in a good way. A knack for critical thinking is important, as is the ability to negotiate and persuade. Superior writing skills are as important as speaking skills. Time management is crucial. Theyre all things that can be learned working side by side with an experienced lawyer for a period of time. The Bar Examination Law school graduates who wantto be admitted to their states bar must pass a two-day examination that tests general legal principles and substantive knowledge of the law. The exact format can vary by state, but one day of the examination usually consists of the Multistate Essay Examination (MEE)- six 30-minute essay questions- and the second day involves a series of questions designed to test knowledge of that particular states law. The exam might also include other tests intended to measure understanding of professional conduct. Most states also require lawyers to take an ethics examination, the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE), as well. Its a two-hour, multiple choice test, and only two states and Puerto Rico waive this requirement as of 2018 Wisconsin and Maryland. Students can take this examination during law school in some states, usually after completing an ethics course. Admittance to the state bar might not depend solely on how well you perform on the bar exam. Bar examiners in some states also consider the applicants character. Most states require that lawyers take continuing education courses throughout their careers to keep current and to maintain their licenses to practice. Salary and Job Growth Trends The median pay for attorneys as of mid-2017 was $119,250 annually, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This number falls right in the middle of the salary range. There were more than 1.3 million practicing attorneys in the U.S. in 2016, yet job growth between 2016 and 2026 is estimated to be about 8 percent. Approximately 65,000 more jobs are expected to open up by 2026. But there are still more s tudents graduating from law school each year than there are jobs available for them. This makes achieving excellent LSAT and bar exam scores even more critical so you stand out from the rest of the pack. Other Options The J.D. is the most common law degree, but you might also want to pursue a master of law degree or doctor of judicial science degree depending on your aspirations. The doctor of judicial science degree is the highest and most prestigious law degree available and recognized in the U.S. Its a second degree that can only be acquired after successful completion of the J.D. or a master of lawdegree. It, too, is a three-year degree. Most law professors have the distinction of having earned doctorates of judicial science. A master of law degree also requires first completing the J.D. Its a one-year degree that allows you to focus on and specialize in a certain field of law.
